Progressing towards status quo......

Sorry everybody, been a bit busy and a lot going on lately. Last week Monday, Amy had her balloon pump placed in her heart. With that she is finally placed on the transplant list as a status 1A. That is the highest that you can be placed on the list for a new heart. Unfortunately, there is one more person waiting in the hospital that is ahead of her and there could be a few more who are outside the hospital waiting that are similar in size and blood type as Amy. So the balloon assists Amy's heart with pumping blood throughout her body. It's something that must be attached to her at all time. Kind of like a little sidekick. Amy's dad named the balloon pump Heart2-D2, after Luke Skywalker's faithful companion R2-D2.

It's been a real tough couple weeks for Amy. Adjusting to life in the hospital has been really rough. Doctors and nurses waking you in the middle of the night and early morning, blood constantly being drawn for labs, alarms sounding for no apparent reason, and not to mention the pain from the surgery. Next came some kidney troubles. Function was not so hot for a while. Then the mention of a possible kidney transplant if things didn't improve. Thankfully, things did improve and Amy's kidneys are working like a well oiled machine. Potassium levels were out of whack too. Bad potassium levels can contribute to an irregular heartbeat which could spell certain doom to Amy. Lots of meds were taken, drank a few nice pints of chalky liquid, many blood tests later and things are back to normal.

Thankfully, amidst all the craziness we were able to have a great 5 year wedding anniversary. We spend the day decorating Heart2-D2 only to parade him around the floor with many smiles from the nurses. We also had a nice LED candlelight dinner from a local Italian restaurant, Coco Pazzo. We watched SuperBad, an old favorite of ours that never get's old, and had a nice slumber party to end the night. We wish we could have celebrated our anniversary outside the hospital, but we made the best of it with what we had due to the situation. But it's better to know that Amy is getting the best care possible so that way we can have many more anniversaries together for a long time.

So here we are now after many tests, a few surgeries, and not to mention a few scary moments. Amy is now at the status quo for someone who is waiting for a heart transplant. She's exactly where they want her to be and finally in a good place. Now we wait for that perfect match......
