Welcome to My Heart Journey...Finding a New Heart

Hi and welcome to my blog! My name Amy and I currently am awaiting my 2nd heart transplant. Wow! cant believe Im in seach for the third heart that will sustain my life. As some of you know, I was born with a severe congenital heart defect. Double oulet right ventricle and hypoplastic left heart. I received several open heart surgeries, cardiac caths, eblations, echos and EKGs throughout my life. Two years ago, I received my first heart transplant at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, IL. Everythning was great! I felt alive and more full of life...I was ready to conquer the world with this new heart of mine! But a year and a half into my journey, I experienced a sever bout of rejection, changed hospitals and was diagnosed with Coronary Artery Disease; basically chronic rejection. So, now we are here..back on the transplant list. I will be going into Northwestern Memorial in September 2016 to be listed as 1A so I can recieve a brand new heart...yet again!

I chose to create a blog during this adventure to inform people of the daily struggles, blessings and routines of what a transplant patient has to live with. Its a joy, a blessing and an honor to recive such a beautiful gift from someone who selflessly gives of themselves. But also it can be a challenge and an uphill battle dealing with the hospital stays, pokes, prods and tests to ensure you are doing everything you can to keep this heart healthy. My hope is to improve awareness of organ donation as well as help those who may be in a similar situation.
