New heart, new journey

So as most of you know, Amy received word that they had a new heart for her Monday night. Of course we were all super excited about it. Amy's positive attitude, spirit, and laughter was very comforting to all of us and is proof of what a strong person she is. The surgery was scheduled for 4am and like clockwork they had her on her way down by 3:30am. Amy was smiling from ear to ear the entire time. We said our goodbyes and well wishes and watched as they wheeled her into surgery. We were tired but very optimistic that we'd get some good news by noon-ish that everything was a success.

Now, I'm not ready to go into great detail at the moment, but as I'm sure you all could guess at this point is that things haven't gone as well and easily as her last transplant. But the saving grace in all of it is that she is improving and her team is highly optimistic. There are a bunch of REALLY smart people that are constantly monitoring her progress and though sometimes it's a bit frustrating, the plans for her recovery change sometimes hour by hour. Her team of nurses are highly trained in heart transplants and are just amazing. They are truly like the A Team of the nursing world much like the amazing bunch at Lurie's. Amy now has a new journey ahead of her in healing and returning to "normal" life. If you have ever had the privilege of meeting Amy you know what a fighter and persistent person she is. I keep telling people that it's going to take a lot more than this to take her down and I'm sure there's a lot of people who would agree with me. We'll continue to share updates on Facebook and on her blog as they become available and as we deem appropriate. We ask that the prayers and good vibes continue to come her way. I can tell that they are helping tremendously as I see her continue to improve and look more like herself each day.

Thank you all for your understanding and support during all of this. I can't tell you how loved and supported we all feel during all of this. All this positive energy is making it's way to Amy and is helping to speed up her recovery. You're going to see a new Amazing Amy after all of this!! Watch out world!!
